Budgeting Bloggers: June Budget

Budgeting Bloggers, hosted by Fran, is a great way to hold myself accountable for my clothing purchases each month. It helps to track my spending habits, identify trends, and streamline my wardrobe with more intention. Check out what other bloggers purchased this month!

After last month’s *ahem* “budget,” I was a little more cognizant of my purchases. Now that we’re in the heart of summer, I don’t feel like I’ll really need to buy anything for awhile. I’m a little hesitant to name July as another no-spending month because it’s my birthday month, but I think it’s something to aim toward. I want some time to reevaluate my closet again, so maybe I should hold off unless I find something I really really love. I just mailed off my first ThredUP bag so I can’t wait to see how that factors into everything.

June brought some very good deals. Check ’em out:

Gap Factory

Navy, Cobalt, and Magenta V-Neck Cardigans at $10.80 each = $32.40
Striped V-Neck Tee – $7.19 (similar)

I think any time you can stock up on cardigans for a good price, you should do it! I snagged up three v-neck, 3/4 sleeved cardigans in colors I don’t already have. It can be hard to find v-neck, but I think they work best for layering.

Old Navy

Short Sleeved Printed Slub-Neck Tee – $8.61
Black Pixie Pants – $27.33
Striped Oxford Popover – $10.49

I finally tried on the Pixie Pants and I LOVE them! They are ridiculously comfortable like leggings but look like pants. I’ve only been able to wear them once since it’s been pretty hot, but I think they’ll be good through the fall and even winter with boots. You’ve already seen my newest popover, too!

Merona Floppy Hat with Striped Sash – $14.24

How I ever went to the beach without a big floppy hat is beyond me. We were inseparable <3

Forever 21

Tortoise Square Sunglasses – $6.21

Total Spent This Month: $106.47

Overall, not too bad. We’ll see how July goes! What did you add to your closets this month?

The Friday 5: v.23

The Friday 5 is a weekly feature highlighting interesting, controversial, heart-wrenching, inspirational, and/or creative content worth reading and sharing. I always find the best blog posts, articles, outfits, and inspiration from other bloggers, so I hope I can do the same for you. Here’s to hoping something will make a difference in your weekend!

Links to Love

  1. There’s something about photostrips that preserves the best kind of memories. Make your own with this easy tutorial.
  2. Aubrey stopped by Pittsburgh for a quick visit a few weekends ago and asked for restaurant recommendations. See what she thought of this highly recommended brew pub!
  3. Jana looks absolutely fantastic in these faux leather leggings–something I’ve never considered, but just might after seeing her outfit.
  4. I’ve been itching to put together a Pittsburgh blogger meetup for months and months now, and Kayla’s Ohio meetup may have just inspired me (and several of my favorite “Burgh Bloggers) to get moving on a plan!
  5. I’m going to pretend that getting a new job is the reason I haven’t dedicated myself to a solid workout in weeks, but really it hasn’t made the priority top 5 list. In any case, I might just have to start with Erin’s Flat Abs Workout.

In this neck of the woods

  1. I might just need to share another bottle of wine with you soon! How things have changed.
  2. I’m about to get a new Stitch Fix. My last one wasn’t right for me at the time, but I’m hopeful that this time will be better!
  3. In preparation for August’s ElectricRun, I may need to dedicate myself even more than when I did for my first Color Run experience.
  4. Everyone needs a little more purple in their lives.
  5. Your next summer read!

Happy Weekend! What’s your Friday 5 I should check out?

Mad #BouqLove for Fresh Blooms

Though many see it as an impractical gesture, I don’t know a single woman who would turn down a bouquet of flowers. There’s something incredibly special and heartwarming about receiving the gift of beauty as a token of appreciation. The world is full of so many beautiful things and flowers are among the most unique and stunning of them all; to receive one is to gain the opportunity to admire God’s handiwork.

I’ve received flowers very few times in my life, but each time made me feel special and appreciated, no matter from whom I received it. Though eventually the bloom fades, getting to spend a few days blushing over the pretty petals in that “special vase” is a great feeling. Every time I ask myself, “Why don’t I buy flowers more often?” They are a simple gesture that can really make someone’s day.

When I was given the opportunity to receive a bouquet from The Bouqs, I was so excited! Not only would I get to enjoy some gorgeous flowers just because, but I also had heard about The Bouqs on one of my favorite shows–Shark Tank–and was anxious for the opportunity to work with them!

Shopping for my bouquet was extremely easy. The high-quality images of each bouquet made it easy to navigate and choose what I was looking for. I settled on this gorgeous Confetti bouquet, drawn to the various pops of color. I feel happy and inspired by the bright hues and enjoy the romantic and soft quality of the roses.

The flowers came in a protective box with many layers to protect it. Be sure to get these blooms in water fast, though! It’s hot out there.

Not a rose type of guy or girl? No problem. You can choose from an array of fresh blooms in any style and color you desire.

In fact, check out this gorgeous Red, White, and Bouq bouquet featured just in time for Independence Day!

Instead of bringing another dessert or beverage to your 4th of July party (like we need any more calories at family BBQs), consider bringing your host/hostess one of these patriotic bouquets. Not only is it a thoughtful gesture, but it also makes for a great centerpiece.

Selecting a delivery was also very simple. The Bouqs offers options for scheduling, next-day shipping, and reoccurring purchases. How AWESOME would that be to receive flowers regularly or even randomly?! Gentlemen, take a hint ;) Pricing is simple– a $40 flat rate for all original size bouquets AND free shipping. You’re guaranteed fresh flowers, grown in volcano soil, without the middle man and extra cost.

If you haven’t purchased flowers for that special someone, your best friend, your mom, a friend who needs some cheering up, or the host of your next BBQ, definitely check out The Bouqs and let me know about YOUR experience!

*While I received a free bouquet in exchange for my review, I wholeheartedly support The Bouq (I have mad #BouqLove) and would definitely purchase from them in the future. Should you decide to purchase a bouquet through any of the affiliate links above, I will receive a kickback at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting the brands that make The Modern Austen possible!

Blouse: Old Navy
Jeans: LOFT
Sandals: T.J. Maxx

Happy Sunday, yinz guys :) I hope you’ve been enjoying your weekend. By the time this post goes live, I’ll be laying out on the beach, wondering how it’s even possible to wear this outfit in the summer. In reality, however, it’s very do-able. My office is rather chilly, so it can be difficult figuring out what to wear for both in and outdoors. Luckily, I found this lovely yellow striped popover at Old Navy last weekend on clearance and thought I’d give it a try. It’s lightweight, but still covers my arms enough to keep from shivering inside. I threw on my favorite cropped jeans and actually attempted (and succeeded at) the “half-tuck!” Longer popovers are great for half-tucking.

I am so glad I finally have another yellow addition to my wardrobe. I only have a scarf and a tank in a bright yellow, so this is a nice softer yellow that will be worn quite frequently.

What colors are you severely lacking in your closets? I literally don’t own any orange. It’s not my favorite color to begin with, but I don’t have a single article of clothing in that shade! Unless, of course, you can count my  “koi” pants (that also doubled as “poppy red” pants) in the various Pantone challenges. It’s interesting to think about what colors we are drawn to. I have tons of pink, purple, and blues in my closet and I notice I am drawn to those same shades in stores all of the time.

I have been LOVING all of the links you ladies have been posting for Sunday Best the past two weeks! Keep them coming! I need all the inspiration I can get.
