July Budget

July Budget: Back to Basics

First and foremost, Happy Birthday Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, and my buddy Kevin!

Now that I have gotten that important piece of business out of the way, I wanted to share how I fared this month along with Fran and the other Budgeting Bloggers.
For me, this month was all about going back to the basics. I invested in one white tee (do you know how hard it is to find a white tee that isn’t practically cellophane?) and SEVEN plain cotton tees in a variety of colors (see picture above) from LOFT. All items were on major sale AND I used my teacher discount.
Funny enough, I only bought the tee  and four of the tanks and then I realized what a good deal it was and went back two days later only to find that the tanks were one dollar more! But I still bought them anyway. I’m really happy with these purchases and find that I wear them quite frequently already. I think they will be even better under cardigans and blazers in the fall.

So let’s talk money.

Originally priced $14.50
On sale for $10
With teacher discount = $8.50

Originally priced $14.50
On sale for $5 (day 1) // $6 (day 2)
With teacher discount = $4.25 x4 // $5.10 x3
Total on tanks = $32.30
Total July Budget: $40.80

Not bad. Next month I will try to be really diligent in keeping the purse strings tied tight because I have a lot of expenses coming up with my move. I mayyyy have to buy some Back-to-School clothes though; I can’t help it!  I may be asking for advice on first-day-of-school outfits soon…dun dun dunnnn.

How did I do in . . .
March // April // May // June ?

Girls Night Out might be the best concept ever created. Ever. A group of fabulous women got together this past weekend to celebrate my birthday and just to get out of the house. We all work together, but I assure you that our evening only included a little bit of work talk! We ate at a great restaurant and then went out on the town until the wee hours of the morning. It was awesome getting an informed “tour” of my new domain (Did you hear? I’m moving!) by people who knew where to go and what to get. For example, we capped off our evening with a tray of delicious fries (from this little dinky place I would’ve walked right past) and ate them on the sidewalk where we made some new friends–it made for a very interesting evening to say the least.

In all seriousness though, it was the best birthday I’ve had in a long time. I am surrounded by some really incredible people and I am so grateful to have them in my life. Thanks girls!

On another note, am I the only one who is stunned that it is already the end of July? For me, summer’s demise arrives on August 1st because that’s really when I feel like I have to get back into school mode…Here’s to hoping to goes by slowly!

Today I am Twenty-Three

Today I am 23

It’s my birthday! Woo! It’s actually the first birthday I’ve spent away from home in years and it’s not because I’m on a trip or at a conference. You can read about last year’s birthday here. As of right now (the evening before my birthday), I don’t have plans for my actual day (LAME, I know), but I do have plans for tomorrow night to go out with some of my girl friends and I’m really looking forward to that. Who knows, maybe something spontaneous will crop up and I’ll have a good time today anyway. I already celebrated my birthday with my family, so I am already a happy camper.

I thought it might be fun to reflect and think about the things I’ve accomplished or experienced in year twenty-two, especially things I didn’t expect. So here goes:

Even though twenty-two was the year of disillusionment, I walk away from it feeling accomplished and inspired. Thanks to all who have supported me. I love you all.

Go have a drink in honor of my birthday ;)

It FINALLY cooled down this summer to a perfect 75 degrees. I couldn’t believe that I wasn’t sweating instantly when I stepped outside so I took advantage of the cool breeze and threw on this 3/4 sleeved chambray top I thrifted a month ago. I rolled the sleeves up here and I’m considering shortening them permanently, but I’ll wait to see how I style this shirt in the fall.

This is a simple outfit, but I absolutely love it. There’s something about chambray and khaki and anything is better with a sweet little polka dot. I felt comfortable and classy all day.

The sunshine and breeze were the perfect recipe for a happy day. It was a nice change to feel so energized amid the rather depressing days of late. I want to say a huge THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all of your incredible feedback, thoughts, prayers, and love after I was brave enough to write this post. I cannot begin to thank each of you enough. It amazes me that when I take a leap of faith on this blog, it ends up surprising me in such beautiful ways. Thanks for encouraging me to put myself out there and to feel confident in my decisions.
