My week at a glance, via Insta-Friday at Life Rearranged.
On Tuesday, I headed to Aaron’s where he showed me his new bow. I attempted to pull it back, but wasn’t strong enough :( Womp womp. Oh well. It was pretty cute to watch regardless ;)
Meet Luna. This is Aaron’s family puppy. She’s a crazy black lab, but we love her :)
Here’s Dad sanding the Radio Cabinet that will eventually serve as my TV stand at my new apartment!
Yesterday was my 22nd birthday! I was woken up at 6:00 a.m. (about a half hour earlier than usual) by my amazing boyfriend who drove to my house with breakfast! He even brought plates, cups, and napkins so we wouldn’t have to do dishes. It was SUCH a great way to start the day!
He made me quiche (which was FANTASTIC) and cinnamon rolls :) Yum!
This has been an everyday occurrence at work the past two weeks. I think we’ve watched like ten movies. While it has been great to read and browse on my phone, it can make for a longggg day. Nothing drives me crazier than to be stuck doing something when you could be so much more productive elsewhere! Oh well. I guess I can’t complain about getting paid to watch movies :P
Unfortunately, the weather on my birthday was pretty much awful.
We headed to Narcissi Winery for my birthday dinner. It was absolutely delicious!
We ordered a bottle of Deer Creek 2011 red wine and it was perfect. What kind of wine do you like? I don’t know much about wine, but I am eager to learn!
You know you’re getting old when you get a bucket of cleaning supplies for your new apartment for your birthday ;)
How was your week? What did you do?
Today is my 22nd birthday!
I am a mix of emotions today, but mostly exhausted, to be completely honest.
People often say they don’t feel any different when they celebrate their birthday. Waking up that morning feels like any other morning. And I do feel that way. I don’t feel like I’m different than I was only 24 hours ago. But to me, there’s something about claiming my age, twenty-two years old, that does feel different. It feels like trying on a pair of shoes for the first time. Stiff, uncertain about how it will fit, snug, exciting, shiny and new.
I guess it feels different because this will be the most crucial year of my entire life up to this point. Everything will change. It’s not the kind of change that happened last year when I turned 21 and could–gasp–legally drink. Yes, that was an exciting time and I DID experience a lot of change over the past year, but this is big girl stuff I’m about to face. I don’t know what’s in store, but I hope that my 22nd year of life is filled with joys and challenges that will shape me into the woman I’m supposed to be.
In celebration of this day, I thought it would only be appropriate if I shared twenty-two things that I am grateful for and that have given me such joy over my lifetime thus far.
I am grateful for…
- My family–especially my parents. They have given me the gift of education; I am only beginning to scratch the surface of what this gift really means. I can’t thank them enough. For everything.
- My boyfriend, Aaron. This morning, he drove to my house at 6 a.m. and woke me up with breakfast he cooked himself, spending time with me before work. He is the light of my life and I could not imagine this next year without him.
- My Kappa Delta sisters
- My friends. The true friends that have stuck around and showed me how much they care. I know I am guilty of neglecting and taking advantage of the amazing friendships I have from time to time, but these true friends are always there no matter what.
- The knowledge, experience, and fun that blogging has brought me the past few months
- The crafting and sewing gene that was passed on to me from my Grandma
- Discovering new hobbies and enjoyment in life
- My incredible college experience. I wouldn’t change a thing.
- Supportive mentors
- Goodwill. (See why here)
- Nsync, Sara Bareilles, and Michael Buble
- Choosing to teach English and getting to read and write and discuss life
- God’s amazing work in my life
- Securing a teaching job in PA my first year out of college
- Memories–the ability to capture moments in time and the ability to recall them
- Time to read
- Opportunities that fall into my lap
- Starting off my 22nd year on a fantastic foot
Here’s to a year of happiness, hope, changes, excitement, and more. Thanks to those who have supported me and The Modern Austen the past few months. You truly mean a lot to me!
Who doesn’t love Tiana from The Princess and the Frog?! SUCH a cute movie! I know she probably isn’t considered a real “Disney princess” just yet, but she totally is in my book.
When I put together this outfit, there were a few “must-haves.” It definitely needed to include green and some sort of “frog” element. I also wanted to bring in the time period and/or New Orleans.
Hopefully, I met these must-haves in this super cute outfit:
Isn’t this outfit sweet? I think the peplum dress is cute and casual with varying shades of green, but I think the long torso reminds me of drop-waisted dresses from the ’20s and ’30s. I think I tied in the “frog” aspect with the hair clip that reminds me of a lily pad and also echos her hairpiece in the picture above. I adore the earrings and would definitely buy those flats!
So, what do you think? Is Tiana a Disney Princess? Would you wear this outfit? Comment below!
If you’ve been following me for some time, you probably know that I got a job and am moving three hours away in just a few short weeks! If you’ve ever moved or got a new job, you know how stressful it can be to manage money and keep everything organized.
Well, I’m here to help! With the help of my amazing parents, we’ve put together a fantastic budget tracker that truly keeps all of my money organized so that I can save up while spending money on the things that really matter to me. I decided to turn this budget tracker into a fabulous printable that can save you time AND, well, money!
I’m ALSO sharing my packing checklist that is perfect for moving into a new apartment or home. It definitely has room to grow with the addition of your personal items and tastes, but it provides an excellent framework of essentials. I’ve even included a list of spices that I think are important to have around in the kitchen.
How can I download my free printables, you may ask?? Well, hop on over to The Modern Austen page, click on “Free Printables” and then click “Like!” If you already follow me, enjoy!
Here’s a little sneak preview:
Aren’t they cute?! I hope you take advantage of them and that they can be of assistance to you! Please let me know if they have been helpful at all or if you have any suggestions for revisions!
